They were then instructed to drink 140ml of beet juice every morning for seven days. Half of the volunteers drank nitrate-rich juice, whereas the other half drank juice with the nitrate removed.

Higher quantities of nitric oxide were discovered in the blood, urine, and saliva of patients who received the typhoid vaccine and drank the nitrate-rich juice.
